“I have enjoyed Ohio so far, but I still really miss my home back in Texas.” Meet Sydney Garner, a new sophomore student at Worthington Christian High School who recently moved here from Houston, Texas with her family. Garner's story is incredible. Out of school, she enjoys dancing and theater but is also a very exceptional student in school. She has moved all throughout the United States but now lives in Ohio, a place she says is much different from any other. Living in Texas most of her life, she enjoyed going to the beach and rodeo and also enjoyed the food in Texas much more than Ohio. Despite leaving Texas she still enjoys living in Ohio but really misses her home in Texas.
Garner is a very talented dancer who currently dances at Leap of Faith dance studio. She dances five hours a week at Leap of Faith and enjoys her advanced tap class there. Back in Texas, she was a very committed dancer, dancing at Pointe of Grace dance studio 30 hours a week. Garner also dances competitively from January to June and enjoys spending time with her friends while performing her dances that she put very hard work into. Her favorite part about dancing is telling stories through her dances. “Once, I told a story about someone losing their best friend, which really impacted me.” Said Garner. Garner loves dancing especially in theater and enjoys incorporating what she learns in dance to theater.
Garner just recently started acting this year through WC theatre and it has become a big part of her life since then. Her most recent play was Shrek the Musical, a fun-filled story with jokes, dancing, and songs about Shrek the ogre.
In Shrek the musical, she played the part of the ensemble where she danced in five numbers, incorporating her skills of dancing into acting. Her favorite part about theatre is how exciting it is to see a story come together out of nothing in just a few weeks. She also enjoys being around the cast and Mr. O’Roark, her director, while she practices. Looking ahead, she hopes to do all the plays she can so that she can expand her skill in acting and dancing but also have more fun doing it.

Just like many other teens, another large part of Garner’s life is school. Garner is not your normal everyday student though; she works as hard as she can and has many ambitious goals unlike many other teens. She has had a very unique experience in school because of Houston’s school system which made her switch schools eight different times, losing many relationships along the way. Besides from that though, she enjoyed the schools down in Texas and she now regularly attends Worthington Christian School in central Ohio. She enjoys WC, but still misses her friends back in Texas and is looking forward to seeing them in the future. Her favorite teacher is Mr. Walton because of his teaching style. “He makes English fun even though it is something that I think of normally being boring.” Said Garner. Next year, her plan is to take two CCP classes and two AP classes. Even though she is nervous about Junior year, she still wants to take on the challenge. She hopes to graduate high school with all A’s and is doing the best she can to make that goal happen.
In conclusion, Sydney Garner is a very talented individual, balancing her skills in dancing and acting while also being a great student. Now that she has lived in Ohio for several months her life is beginning to normalize again from making such a big move. She is looking forward to going back to Texas but still enjoys her life in Ohio. In the future, Garner plans to participate in many more plays and incorporate what she has learned from dance into acting. Academically, she plans to keep working as hard as she can to receive the best grades she can. Her story has only just begun, and she is planning to accomplish many new things in the coming years.
